About Tashkent State Medical University
Tashkent State Medical University, or TSMU, is the largest, oldest, and most prestigious Medical University in Uzbekistan. Located in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, TSMU has provided Medical Education for Central Asia for over 100 years.
Established in 1919, at that time known as the Faculty of Medicine at Turkestan State University, the institute gained prominence as it became the Tashkent Medical Institute in 1931. In 1990, it divided into two separate institutes and later merged as Tashkent Medical Academy (TMA) in 2005. It has been elevated by Presidential Decree in April 2025 to its current status as Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU).
In April 2025, Uzbekistan combined three venerated medical educational institutes:
- Tashkent Medical Academy (TMA)
- Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute
- Tashkent State Dental Institute

TSMU follows a structured admission process with a mandatory entrance interview for international students.
